Zuid-Kennemerland National Park
Walk up dunes, down dunes, across vast open plains and through rare dune oak forests. The dune landscape National Park South-Kennemerland covers four estates that were once owned by Amsterdam merchants who used this area as a hunting ground. In the dunes, the bunkers from the Second World War tell of the war's past. Meanwhile, keep your eyes open: this is also the habitat of fallow deer, Scottish highlanders and konik horses, among others.

Only one dike connects the peninsula of Marken to the mainland. Marken breathes the authentic atmosphere of the past in an archetypal Dutch setting. Fortresses in the Beemster
The Beemster was an inland lake until it was drained in 1612. In the Beemsterpolder there are five fortresses that were part of a defensive ring: the Stelling from Amsterdam. The Defense Line is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Only Fortress 'aan de Nekkerweg' and 'Fortress Spijkerboor' are open to the public.
Edam
Whoever says Edam, says cheese. Not surprisingly, the spherical cheeses have been known for centuries known all over the world. Discover the origins of this delicacy in Edam and be surprised by the historic centre of the old Zuiderzee town. In July and August you can experience for yourself how trade used to be conducted here during the Wednesday cheese market. Tip: Do you like cultural activities? Then visit Edam's museum, one of the two locations is the 'Steenen Coopmanshuys'. This is Edam's oldest house with a unique floating cellar.
Goat farm Ridammerhoeve
You will find this goat farm in the middle of the Amsterdamse Bos. Besides the fact that you can go for lovely walks and cuddle the goats, they also organise fun workshops such as making cheese. In the accompanying restaurant, you can enjoy a delicious lunch and you can reserve various arrangements in advance, such as 'breakfast with the goats', a barbecue or an arrangement of snacks.
Zaanse Schans
It doesn't get any more Dutch than this! On the Zaanse Schans you step back in time and taste the atmosphere of the eighteenth and nineteenth century. There are lots of wooden houses, windmills, old workshops, barns and museums. Take a look at the cheese dairy, discover how they used to make bread in the bakery museum and watch clogs being made.
Sup & Meer
Get on your sup board at Sup&Meer. The Stand Up Paddle school (SUPSchool) is beautifully located at the Nieuwe Meer in the heart of the Amsterdamse Bos. You are welcome for SUP lessons, but you can also rent a SUP board and fun trips are being organised.
Monnickendam
Monnickendam is a charming historic town on the Gouwzee lake, with a rich maritime history dating back to the 14th century. The town centre has more than 70 listed buildings, including the Gothic Grote of Sint-Nicolaaskerk church and the Waaggebouw weigh house, dating from 1668. Museum de Speeltoren houses the oldest carillon in the world that is still played and tells the story of Waterland and its inhabitants. The harbour is a lively backdrop of traditional sailing ships and is the departure point for boat trips on the Markermeer. Monnickendam offers a unique combination of history, culture and water experiences.
Museum of Marken
In museum of Marken (Marker Museum) you can learn more about the history, the traditional costumes, the textiles that were used and are still used today and the fishing industry on Marken.
Zuiver Amsterdam

Hoorn
In the time of the East India Company, the historic harbor town of Hoorn was one of the main trading centers. Visit one of the museums or travel back in time and board the Museum Steam Tram Hoorn-Medemblik. On the way the train stops in Twisk and Opperdoes. You can return by steam train or boat. The driving schedule changes every day.
Recreational area Het Twiske
One of the recreational areas in Waterland - north of Amsterdam - is Het Twiske. One third of this recreation area consists of water and offers plenty of opportunities for swimming, diving, surfing and sailing. As a recreation area, Het Twiske is popular with children, who can have fun here on and around the water. Het Twiske has a play ditch, splash pond and an adventure playground with tube fort, cableway, pirate ship, castle and ferries. There are also no fewer than seven beaches and a harbour. For nature lovers, it is a haven where they can cycle, walk, sail, ride horses and rollerblade undisturbed in a varied landscape.
